Course Objectives


After completing this course the student should be able to:

  • Understand the provisioning of MPLS, FlexUNI/EVC and L2 VPNs using ISC v5.1. This includes the provisioning  of basic and advanced VPN Services (including Carrier Ethernet) and MPLS Troubleshooting using ISC.
  • Understand the Traffic Engineering Manager (TEM) aspects and the new features and functionality introduced in v5.1 to include Multiple Concurrent Users, TEM Service Requests and Management and removal of TE Links.


Course Content

Module 1: ISC and MPLS Overview: This module provides an overview of the MPLS environment and describes the features and functionality of the ISC 5.1 Package.

Module 2: Populating the Repository: This module describes the procedures required to populate the ISC 5.1 repository.

Module 3: MPLS VPN Service Provisioning: This module provides an overview of the MPLS/VPN technologies and details the procedures required to provision L3 VPN services using ISC 5.1.

Module 4: Advanced VPN Topologies: This module details complex L3 VPN configurations including Management and Extranet VPN’s

Module 5: FlexUNI/EVC, L2VPN, and Carrier Ethernet Provisioning: This module provides an overview of the FlexUNI/EVC, L2 VPN and Metro Ethernet technologies and details the procedures required to provision these services using ISC 5.1.

Module 6
: Reporting: This module introduces the reporting functionality and details the procedure required to effectively use this tool.

Module 7: MPLS Diagnostics Expert 2.1.3: This module provides an overview of the MDE Product, installation and setup.

Module 8: Using MDE: This module gives an overview of the problems MDE can be used to solve and then details how it can be used to trouble-shoot these issues.

Module 9: Troubleshooting Failure Scenarios with MDE: This module details how to use MDE to troubleshoot some of the supported scenarios.

Module 10: Adopting MDE: This module looks at how to plan MDE implementations, the business values offered from successfully implementing MDE into an overall OSS solution and the lessons that have been learnt.

Module 11: ISC Administration: This module details the administrative tasks required with ISC 5.1and includes Templates, and RBAC.

Module 12: MPLS-TE Technology Overview: This module provides an overview of MPLS and MPLS TE technologies used by ISC and ISC TEM.

Module 13: ISC-TEM Overview, Setup and Discovery: This module provides detailed information on the server installation packages and setup.

Module 14: TE Topology Visualizations: This module details the various visualizations available in the ISC TEM package.

Module 15
: Defining TE Policies, TE Service Requests and Monitoring:
This module details the process for defining TE policies and the functions and benefits of monitoring tasks.

Module 16: TE Tunnel Administration:
This module details the processes and features associated with tunnel administration.
